Independence and Lost Man Lakes via Lost Man Loop is a 5.5 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Aspen, Colorado that features a lake and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, running, and nature trips and is best used from May until September. This Trail starts at about 11,200 feet right before the top of cottonwood pass. The trail is uphill all the way to Independence Lake, but the grade should be manageable more most folks. There are 2 ways to access the Lost Man Trail: 1) Linkins Lake / Upper Lost Man trailhead: Drive 18.5 miles east of Aspen on Highway 82 to the parking lot on the left (north) side of the road at the last switchback before Independence Pass. 0.3 miles from the trailhead the Lost Man Trail approaches the south side of the reservoir and then follows its shore as it proceeds northward up the valley.
